This portrait-format depiction of the choir stalls of Mainz Cathedral is strongly linked to a landscape-format rendering of the same subject with almost identical dimensions housed in a private collection (cf. exhib. cat. "Ferdinand Brütt (1849-1936) - Erzählung und Impression", Museum Giersch, Frankfurt, 18.3.-15.7. 2007, Petersberg 2007, cat. no. 65, illus. p. 116). The depiction of the stained glass windows using pastose brushstrokes in vivid colours is particularly charming.
