An ivory netsuke of an octopus trapped in a pot. Mid-19th century

The octopus caught in a ceramic pot (takotsubo) sticks his tentacles through the openings of the vessel's wall which displays ages cracks and is encrusted with barnacles. Eye pupils inlaid black. Signed Rantei on the base. Age cracks.
