A boxwood netsuke of a wasp in a rotten pear. Late 19th century

Inside the pear sits a large wasp with naturalistically carved body, wings and legs, the eyes of black glass, the pimples on the skin rendered in ukibori, the himotōshi openings with a raised rim. Signed Kōgetsu in a raised reserve.
