An important silver gilt mounted double mazer cup

Made up of two bulbous wooden goblets with gilt silver mountings. The gilded basal ring with beaded mouldings: the lower cup with curved handle engraved with tendrils and flowerheads; upper cup with corresponding decor to the lip and base with pierced tendril design. The panel in the base of the lower cup finely engraved with a standing putto holding a vase of acanthus vines above his head, dated "1535" below his feet. H 17; W 14,8; D 12,5 cm, weight 350 g.
Unmarked, attributed to Southern Germany or Switzerland. 1535.
