A Meissen porcelain bust of the young Louis Charles de Bourbon

Blue crossed swords mark on the interior. A firing crack to the reverse; the tip of the nose, feather, flowers, bow and lace collar restored. H 23.5 cm.
Model attributed to Johann Joachim Kaendler, 1750/53.

Otto Walcha published this and a female bust as portraits of Louis Charles de Bourbon (1751 - 61) and Marie-Zéphirine de Bourbon (1750 - 55). Both figures are attributed to Kaendler, but this is not confirmed by the taxa. All that is known for certain is that they are idealised portraits of the two children, as Kaendler never saw the French princess or her younger brother.

Provenance

The Heinrich Collection.
