A three-case tsuishū inrō. Around 1850-1870

Carved in relief with the immortal Shōriken riding his magical sword over waves, on the other side an immortal sitting on a rock by the seashore and holding a scroll, surrounded by cloud patterns in guri style with beige lines. Black lacquer to the inside. Signed in seal script Sonsei (Zonsei) saku. Small ojime in the style of carved lacquer.
Height 7.8 cm; width 6.3 cm

Murakami Sonsei (1825-1876) was one of the outstanding lacquer masters in Tsurugaoka (Uzen province, present Yamagata prefecture).
