Joseph Moosbrugger

High Trail with a View of Lake Constance

Oil on card. 31 x 42,6 cm.

During his time at the Munich Academy, Joseph Moosbrugger's encounter with Eduard Schleich was of great importance for his artistic development. Through him he also got to know Rottmann, Dillis and Bürkel. These artists helped him decide to turn to landscape painting. As an enthusiastic hiker, this art form was certainly an obvious choice. Moosbrugger's proverbial wanderlust seems to illustrate the present painting, with the path running high above Lake Constance. Like many of his works, it is not signed, but is convincing in view of the unmistakable panorama of Lake Constance. Moosbrugger painted a particularly large number of landscape motifs from this region, including for the Margrave of Baden.
