Portrait of Hans Heys aged 72

Inscribed below: "H: Heys: Meines. Alters. Im. 72. Jar: 1556".
All that is known about the Heys family so far is that they were an old Carinthian family who were vassals of the diocese of Gurk. The coat of arms on the sitter's signet ring corresponds to the information provided by Alois Weiß, which refers to the coat of arms of a Hans Hewss from the year 1416 (cf. Alois Weiß: Kärnthen's Adel bis zum Jahre 1300, Vienna 1869, p. 195).
