Caspar Netscher, copy after

Portrait of Pieter Six and a Servant with Game

Oil on canvas (relined). 48 x 39 cm.

Pieter Six (1655-1703) was the nephew of Jan Six, one of Rembrandt's most important patrons. The identification is based on the painting "Christ and the Samaritan Woman" by Annibale Carracci, shown above right, which was housed in Pieter Six's Amsterdam collection until 1703 (now in the Szépmüvészeti Múzeum in Budapest). The signed version of the portrait by Caspar Netscher, dated 1677, is today in the Städel Museum in Frankfurt.
