AN ALLEGORY OF NIGHT AND DAY (SUPRAPORTE)

Oil on canvas. 51 x 132 cm.

The dark clouds and the cupids representing the west wind in the left part of the painting symbolize the Night, whereas the right part depicting the cupid with a rainbow probably symbolizes the Day. The cupid with the butterfly wings in the centre pours morning dew. The painting has traditionally been attributed to the painter Jodokus Matthias Kappers (1717-1781) from Münster.
