A Vienna porcelain cup and saucer with views of Syracuse

Of cylindrical form with original saucer. Finely painted with a panoramic view entitled "Vue des Restes du Temple de Jupiter Olympien à Syracuse". The saucer with "Vue exterieure des Lathomiers ou Carrieres antiques de Syracuse." Blue bindenschild mark, year stamp 97, I in purple (cup), dreher's number 39 for Ferdinand Ebenberger. The gilding of the handle peeling.

The motifs are derived from the 1781 travel account "Voyage pittoresque ou description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile"
by Jean Claude Richard de Saint-Non. Saint-Non travelled throughout Italy together with the painters Jean-Honoré Fragonard and Hubert Robert from 1759 to 1761. He dedicated the five-volume description of his journey to the French Queen Marie Antoinette.
