T. Lux Feininger, who photographed Bauhaus life and portrayed his fellow students during 1926-29, began to work as a painter in the 1930s. Although he continued to photograph - also after his emigration to the USA in 1936 - he made more and more use of photography in an experimental manner in order to create source material for his paintings. Partly acting from necessity and partly due to his artistic interest he began to use unconventional means as in the case of these two photographs using opera glasses to obtain the effect of a telephoto lens.
