PORTRAIT OF AN FORTRESS ARCHITECT
Oil on canvas (relined). 118,5 x 111,5 cm.
The female figure standing next to the architect, holding a plummet in her right hand and an artillery calculator in her left is to be interpreted as an allegory of fortress architecture. The star-shaped building depicted on the plan in the man's hands is a further indication that the sitter is a fortress architect.
Provenance
From an old German private collection.
