Georg Kolbe

Statuette 1 (Statuette mit erhobenen Armen)
1917

Bronze Height 42.7 cm Monogrammed 'GK' (joined) on the top of the plinth next to the right foot. Cast approx. 1919. - Rare. Edition Galerie Arnold, Dresden. - Fine matt, reddish brown patina, partially slightly lightened.

Made in 1917, only a very few casts of this work were made in Berlin and possibly in Dresden, too; in this context because of lacking foundry marks the corresponding foundry be unequivocally identified. Ursel Berger states in her expert opinion on the period when it was made: “The figure is usually dated to 1917. This means it arose in Istanbul, where Georg Kolbe was active as an artist during World War I. Bronze casts could not be made until after the end of the war, which is why it also dated as 1919 (by Kolbe himself).”
