Watercolour and black lead on smooth drawing paper 26.7/27.6 x 34.5 cm, framed under glass. Signed, dated and titled 'Heckel 11/ - Figurengruppe -' in pencil lower right. - Verso, in upright format, a sketch of a stooping nude in profile. - The watercolour image irregularly placed to left side of sheet (probably from a sketch-book), strongly contoured in graphite. - The edges of the sheet partly irregularly torn or cut. The upper margin lightly smudged.

According to the information given by the Heckel archives, the watercolour was sketched in Prerow, signature and inscription possibly added at later date. Related in motif is the lithograph "In den Dünen" (Dube 170) of 1911, a similar composition in the dunes with several figures, among them a standing nude in front of shrubs and a lying woman with crossed legs.
