30 Years of Photography Auctions at Lempertz
30 successful years are a milestone: When Lempertz held their first auction to celebrate 150 years of photography in autumn 1989, it was a pioneering act. Photography auctions were held in New York and London, more rarely still in France - but not in Germany. The risk paid off and the experiment was a success: Over the course of three decades and 70 auctions, Lempertz has risen to become one of the world's leading houses for photography and still cater to an exclusive international clientele of collectors to this day, supplying high carat photographic works. In our auctions you will find the greatest artists of the contemporary photography scene including Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky, and Nobuyoshi Araki, as well as top quality examples of classic photography by August Sander, Albert Renger-Patzsch, and Man Ray. Our regular special auctions of private collections are always a success. History becomes art, art becomes history: Our glossy and thoroughly researched catalogues soon become collector's items in their own right. 30 years of photography - the market is more exciting and sought after than ever before.
