Auction 1252 on 14 November 2024 in Cologne
Jewellery and watches
Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau - historical jewelry from various private collections will be on offer at the Jewellery and Watches auction in Cologne on 14 November. An Art Deco brooch with a fancy diamond of 7.98 carats outshines everything else.
An Art Deco brooch is the star of the auction: the two-centimetre-diameter fancy vivid yellow diamond in the middle of this piece weighs 7.98 carats and is surrounded by twelve other old-cut diamonds. The piece of jewelry, which comes to the auction in Cologne from family ownership, was created around 1920-25 and has an estimate of € 40 / 50,000 and comes with a HRD Natural diamond grading report.

With 134 diamonds totaling 6.08 carats, the Edwardian necklace also stands out from the historical jewelry on offer at the Lempertz auction on November 14. Made in England at the beginning of the 20th century, the 18-karat gold piece bears a French import stamp. Estimate of this exciting necklace is € 10 / 12,000.
An exquisit example of Art Nouveau jewelry is the dragonfly brooch. The piece with 23 old- and rose-cut diamonds was made around 1890/1900.
A Louis XV gold tabatiere stands out from the older pieces in the catalogue. The box is decorated with hunting game in rocaille cartouches and rocaille-framed column architecture on the lid. It bears the Parisian year letter A for 1764/65 and will be auctioned at an estimate of € 8 / 10,000.
The more recent pieces on offer include author's jewelry by Louise Bourgeois, Georges Braque, Jean Cocteau, Jean Desprès and Jean Fouquet, among others.
Another highlight of the contemporary objects is an important cocktail necklace with approx. 40 ct diamonds by Van Cleef and Arpels from Westphalian private ownership, acquired in 1983 from Van Cleef & Arpels in Geneva, estimated at € 80 / 100,000.
