The Mundus String Quartet is to play at Lempertz on 12th November in the run up to the autumn auction season

The Mundus Quartet is performing its programme ‘Dialog der Zeiten’ (Dialogue of the Ages) at an unusual venue: On 12th November, it will transform the Lempertz auction house into a concert hall.

The Mundus String Quartet will perform its programme ‘Dialog der Zeiten’ (Dialogue of the Ages) at Lempertz on Neumarkt in Cologne on 12th November at 7:30 p.m. The quartet was founded just two years ago. The name Mundus, Latin for ‘world’, describes it aptly: Ming-Chun Teng (violin), Noori Nah (violin), Aiden Sullivan (viola) and Pin-Jyun Chen (cello) come from three different continents and met in Cologne at the University of Music and Dance. What also unites them is their participation in the finals of various international music competitions.

The young quartet will perform its programme ‘Dialog der Zeiten’ (Dialogue of the Ages) as part of the ‘Musik in den Häusern der Stadt’ festival at Lempertz, a place where art from across the eras is auctioned on other days. On this evening, the hall belongs to music, in a programme which also combines old masters with contemporary art: Beethoven's String Quartet No. 2, Op. 18 is complemented by Ernst von Dohnányi's String Quartet No. 3, Op. 33.

This concert by the young string quartet, comprised of graduates from the Academy of Music and Dance, is a further collaboration between Lempertz and young artists in Cologne. The house also partners with the Academy of Media Arts, whose students regularly exhibit works in two shop windows of the auction house on Neumarkt as part of the ‘urban stage’ project.
