A Berlin silver christening set made for the Barons of Labes

Comprising pitcher and bowl, both monogrammed "C.M.E.v.L." and dated 1777. H of pitcher 20; D of bowl 32.5 cm, weight 1,118 g.
Marks of Gebrüder Müller, circa 1760 - 77.

These pieces are engraved with the coat of arms and monogram of Baroness Caroline Marie Elisabeth von Labes, lady of Zernikow manor in northern Brandenburg from 1730 - 1810. Her deceased husband had been raised to the status of Baron whilst acting as Geheimrat of Quedlinburg Abbey in 1763. Caroline appears to have donated this christening set on occasion of the renovation of Zernikow church in 1777. It was used in 1781 for the christening of her first grandson, the later poet Achim von Arnim (1781 - 1831).
