A Meissen porcelain plate with the arms of Podewils

Of scalloped form with shell appliques. The border decorated with the arms of Heinrich von Podewils supported by two crowned eagles, the centre with "indianische blumen". Blue crossed swords mark, impressed 21, gilt cursive "P". Minimal wear. Diameter 25.2 cm.

Heinrich Graf Podewils (1696 - 1760) was named Geheimer Kriegsrat (secret war councillor) under Frederick William I, and as war minister under Frederick II he was entrusted with command over the entire Prussian army. It is presumed that this service was made in connection with his rise to the rank of Count in 1741.
