A Meissen porcelain dinner plate from the Swan Service

A flat plate with shell relief and a shaped border. Decorated in relief to the centre with two swimming swans and two herons amid reeds. Scattered "indianische blumen" and the slightly off-centre arms of alliance of Brühl-Kolowrat-Krakovský to the border. Blue crossed swords mark, dreher's mark with two dots, presumably of Johann Martin Kittel jun. Minor wear to the glaze, presumably from stacked storage. D 23.2 cm

In: Pietsch (ed.), Schwanenservice. Meissener Porzellan für Heinrich Graf von Brühl, Dresden-Leipzig 2000, numerous comparable pieces listed under no. 24.
Kaendler created a prototype in April 1736, in Pietsch's transcription of his workshop records this is listed as: "5. A plate form shaped like a shell, within which swim two swans beside other water fowl, and reeds cut flat within (from the German, Leipzig 2002, p. 38).
