A portrait miniature of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria

A portrait on porcelain of the young Emperor in a field marshalls uniform with orders and with band of the Order of Maria Theresia. In a narrow metal border set into a giltwood frame lined with green damask. The damask fabric of the frame with signs of wear. 8 x 6 cm (incl. frame).
Unknown master, Austria, mid-19th C.

Numerous almost identical versions of this portrait of the young Franz Joseph I in the year of his coronation exist from the hands of various artists, including Eduard Klieber and Carl J. Lemmermayer. A similar portrait miniature by Richard Schwager depicting the Emperor in a blue field marshalls uniform without the sash of the Order is kept in the graphics collection of the Albertina in Vienna.
