An unusual mortar with crocodile handles

Cast bronze with dark brown patina. The body surrounded by horizontal mouldings, two beaded bands and scattered Bourbon lilies. The display side with a winged heraldic shield with a cross. The rim with a banderole in Gothic minuscule: "domus tue comedit me fetue". H 12, D 14.5 cm. Weight 2.5 kg. Including a later T-shaped pestle.
Attributed to France, 16th C.
