A Louis XV inlaid chest of drawers

Walnut, rosewood, maple and stained woods on oak corpus, ormolu-mountings, yellow lamartine marble top from the French Jura. Bombé form chest with two drawers. With cartouche motif and floral marquetry. Stamped to the left front apron "L´HERMITE": Older restorations and subsequent warping, minor losses. H 94, W 147, D 63 cm.
Martin-Etienne Lhermitte, Paris, mid- to 3rd quarter 18th C.

Martin-Etienne Lhermite (circa 1730 - circa 1735) became a master cabinetmaker on 22nd August 1753. In his short lifetime and career he was able to produce numerous impressive items of furniture. He also made chests of drawers, corner cabinets, desks, and vanities for Pierre Migeon. The chest mentioned in Kjellberg may either be the present work or one of similar quality.
