Late 19th C.

In the early 19th century, the Sèvres manufactory were able to establish themselves as the most technically innovative porcelain manufactory in Europe under the legendary director Alexandre Brongniart (from 1800 until his death in 1847). It was only after 1873 that Meissen were able to keep pace with this development: Manufactory inspector Dr. Julius Heintze was not only able to imitate the pâte-sur-pâte painting technique discovered in France but also introduced new underglaze pigments that provided an ideal ground for the semi transluscent liquid porcelain mass.

Provenance

Hessian Collection.
