The album was a gift from NASA, represented by astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins and their wives, to the German Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger‘s wife Marie-Luise Kiesinger. It was presented to her at a state banquet in Bonn on October 12, 1969, just three months after the end of the ‚Apollo 11‘ mission.
