An unusual ivory netsuke of a seated tiger-like nue. 19th century

A tiger-like nue, its monkey face with a fierce expression, the tail in the shape of a snake with a split tongue. Pupils of black horn.
Height 3.7 cm

The nue is a creature that apeared at night on the palace roofs and was thought to be the cause of the emperor's illness. Yorimasa and I no Hayata both slew the creature.
