An ivory netsuke of a small monkey sitting on a goat. Late 18th/early 19th century

While the goat sits with head turned backwards, the monkey pulls at its beard and holds a baton.
Height 4.4 cm

The combination of goat and monkey represents the hours from three to five in the morning and in the afternoon.
