An Edo school dark wood netsuke of a kappa on a hamaguri, by Kômin. 19th century

The water sprite crawls over a clam, the two valves of which have closed over his foot, a small hamaguri on the underside. The hind legs with ukibori, the umbo of the shells inlaid with ivory, the eyes of light and black horn, the fluid on top of the head of mother-of-pearl, the cord holes lined with green-stained bone or horn, the surface of the shell stained slightly darker than the kappa. Signed Kômin with kaô.
