A rare Meissen porcelain stembowl with an arms of alliance

Fired in two parts and screwed together with brass mountings (including original). Decorated with the arms of the Sulkowski and Stain zu Jettingen family and "indianische blumen". Blue crossed swords mark, dreher's mark of Andreas Schiefer. Restored. H 9.6, D 28 cm.
1735 - 38.

The Polish aristocrat, general, head chamberlain, head equerry and later shadow cabinet minister Count Aleksander Józef Sulkowski married Baroness Anna Maria von Stain zu Jettingen on 31st October 1728. Despite his military success in the Seventh Ottoman war, Sulkowski was forced to abdicate from all of his positions and go into exile in 1738 as a result of an intrique plotted against him by Count Heinrich Brühl.
