An ivory netsuke of a laughing Hotei. Second half 19th century

Seated in his bag, the loosely worn robe revealing his hairy chest and pot-belly, the bag covered with takaramono (hammer, tama, key, chôji, scroll, mino and fundô) of various materials in Shibayama-style inlay. Together with an ojime inlaid in the same manner with takaramono.
