A highly important Hachmann mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Conical form of octagonal section with waisted base. The outer surface divided horizontally, a banderole with an inscription in Gothic minuscule below the rim "godt hefft ghevucht das myr ghenught" and around the base "anno domini m vc l vii". Unusual handles formed as griffon's heads holding three lobed rings. H 15.1, D 15.7 cm. Weight 4.9 kg. Including a corresponding key shaped pestle.
Cleves, Hachmann foundry, attributed to Albert Hachmann, 1547.

Among other things, Albert Hachmann was cannon caster for William V, called William the Rich, Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berge (1516 Düsseldorf 1592).
