A dated Hachmann mortar with dragon handles

Cast bronze with fine golden brown patina. Decorated with a vacant heraldic shield supported by winged half-figures beneath a medallion with the Veil of Veronica. A band of fleur-de-lys surrounds the lower border. Dated "anno domini mcccccxlviii" in Gothic minuscule and with a dog chasing a rabbit below the rim. H 16, D 17 cm. Weight 5.7 kg. Including a corresponding pestle.
