Oil on canvas 50 x 70.2 cm, the margins of canvas relined, framed. Signed and dated O Modersohn 43 in dark red lower right as well as on reverse titled on the left stretcher member "Mondnacht" in pencil. - On back of lower stretcher member with fragmentary printed exhibition label of the Kunst-Verein Bremen from the 1930s (probably an older stretcher reused).

According to the artist's studio book at the Modersohn-Museum, this painting is the "20th of 30 pictures which he painted in 1943 until his death on 10 March. The title on the stretcher corresponds to the title in the studio book: 'Mondnacht'. He added an exclamation mark (!) to the title. Probably a sign of special appreciation." (Rainer Noeres)
