A Berlin KPM porcelain commemorative vase with a portrait of Prince Albrecht

A krater form vase, fired in two parts and screw mounted. An eagle perches on one shoulder before a portrait of the young Prince with the Order of the Black Eagle in a gilt palmette frame. The other side with a large image of the Prince heading a stag hunt on a galopping horse. Blue sceptre mark, brown imperial eagle mark. H 43, D 30 cm.
1826, the portrait presumably after Franz Krüger, the vase design attributed to Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

This vase was probably presented to the young Prince Albrecht when he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle. He was the ninth and last child of Queen Luise and King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia. His mother died of tuberculosis when he was just a few months old. In 1816 the Prince joined the royal “Landwehrbattalion”. On his 10th birthday on 4th October 1819 he was named Second Lieutenant of the 1st Infantry Guard Regiment. He was a great fan of equestrian sports and hunting, which explains why he is depicted in a hunting scene on the reverse of this vase.
According to Contobuch, the vase was sent to Paris in 1826 at the king's request.

Literature

An identical vase housed in the former Twinight Collection, sold in Lempertz auction 1125 on 7th November 1018, lot 7. This vase with a portrait of Prince Wilhelm, presumably also intended as a gift for a recipient of the Order of the Black Eagle.
This vase design has been tentatively attributed to Karl Friedrich Schinkel. An identical figure of an eagle attributed to Schinkel can be seen on a pair of dishes for the royal table from 1815/20 (cat. Kronschatz und Silberkammer der Hohenzollern, Munich 2010, no. 186.).
