Philipp Bauknecht

Philipp Bauknecht, who was born in 1888 and who trained in the arts and crafts, turned towards painting and woodcuts from 1910 onwards. This event coincided with the immigration to Davos where Bauknecht aimed to cure a tuberculosis disease and where he met German authors and artists, among them Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Subsequent to early stylistic experiments with Art Nouveau and Impressionism, the artist developed an expressionist and occasionally abstract design vocabulary, in which he predominantly recorded the topics of his immediate surroundings, the alpine world and its inhabitants.
