A rare Meissen porcelain beaker and saucer with

highly unusual blue decor within a gilt lace frame filled with purple lustre and surrounded by "indianische blumen", three further sprigs of this style to the saucer. Blue crossed swords mark. H 7.4, diameter of saucer 12.9 cm.
Ca. 1728, the decor attributed to Johann Christoph Horn.

The tea bowl with the same decor from the Wark Collection published by Pietsch is marked "AR", meaning that it was explicitly intended for use in the royal household. Astonishingly, the style of the cartouches on that piece is significantly less opulent than those of the present work - it lacks the gilt lace and purple lustre. However, the appearance of this rare monochrome blue motif indicates that both pieces were produced at the same time, namely around 1728.

Provenance

From an old Rhenish family collection.
