A Neoclassical Meissen porcelain amphora-form vase.

A Neoclassical Meissen porcelain amphora-form vase. Fired in two parts and attached via screw mountings. The porcelain appliques with rare opaque gilt decor. Blue crossed swords mark, pressnummer 25, gilder's mark 27. Some leaves chipped, partial wear to the gilding. H 47.7 cm.
After 1830, the gilding based on techniques developed by Heinrich Gottlieb Kühn.

The mine inspector Heinrich Gottlieb Kühn (Dresden 1788 - 1870 Meissen) became inspector of the porcelain manufactory following Marcolini's death. He encouraged technical innovation by developing new methods of decoration, especially gilding. His inventions came at a favourable time, as the fashion for Neoclassicism was gradually waning and the export of porcelain was greatly simplified by the founding of the German customs association in 1831, factors which brought considerable profits for the manufactory in the following years.
