A stand for six inro (inrokake). Tagayasan. Late Edo/early Meiji period

Two-parts, in shape of a low standing screen, (byobu), carved of tagayasan, almost black. Each side with a central round opening flanked by gourd-shaped openings. A separate panel below with a further, long narrow opening with a central so-called wachigai motif (overlapping circles),from which an arrow emerges on both sides. The background is formed by a dense diamond pattern in fine openwork. Silver fittings in the shape of butterflies to hold the inro cord and along the outer edges above and below, each in fine relief and engraved with vegetal motifs. The arrows indicate that this stand was made for a samurai household. Good condition.
