Literature

Wittwer (ed.) Raffinesse & Eleganz, Munich 2007, no. 80: “This plate (…) is a rare example of a “normal” flower painter – and not one of the head painters - signing his name on a work. Ernst Sager joined KPM as an apprentice in 1804 and was employed as a flower painter in 1810.” Wittwer also found an entry in the “Contobuch” in which the plate is described “2 with colourful flowers on black ground, alongside a gilt foliage border” (ibid. p. 269, SPSG, KPM-Archiv, Pret 2, entry from 7th May 1830, p. 168).
