Already famous within his lifetime, his works were coveted for their detailed compositions and vivid colouring. The present painting corresponds in style and motif to three works from the first decade of the 17th century, all depicting views of river landscapes with figures pursuing everyday occupations on the land.

The Wellington Museum in London is just one distinguished house where these three works can be found. The present oil on copper panel work “River Landscape with Fishers and a Cart” has an estimate of 1.2 – 1.5 million euro and is from a private Belgian collection.
