Lempertz’ 175th anniversary
Here is a small glimpse behind the scenes!
1845 – 2020: Lempertz celebrates its 175th anniversary!
The spring season this year also proved extraordinary in our auction house due to the worldwide corona pandemic. It was therefore all the more pleasing that we were able to achieve great auction successes and a total turnover of 21.7 million euro in the first half of our jubilee year. With individual previews, 3D tours, sufficient distancing measures in the auction rooms and the possibility to bid by telephone, in writing and online, we were able to satisfy our collectors.
In the history of our house, the offer this autumn season is certainly outstanding. As well as the regular auctions, the special catalogues present no less than fifteen superb pieces of furniture by the two most significant German ebenists of the 18th century, David and Abraham Roentgen, as well as the first part of the highly important porcelain collection of Tono and Renate Dreßen.
A highlight of the international auction market, to be sold on 8 December, will be the sale of the fantastic Bischoff old master collection featuring one of the most important nocturne paintings by the Lorraine painter Georges de La Tour. With an estimate of € 3-4 million, it is the only one of its kind still in private hands.
A further special catalogue presents the fascinating collection of early photographs of Rome from Orsola and Filippo Maggia which will go under the hammer shortly before the regular Photography Auction on 7 December, whilst on 8 and 9 December, you can look forward to the offerings of the departments of Classical Modern and Contemporary Art. These jubilee catalogues delight with an exciting selection of works by Roy Lichtenstein, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Günther Förg, Pablo Picasso, Lyonel Feininger and many more. Be inspired!
Here on our website you can find all the information regarding our sales: click through the auction catalogues, browse our after-sale and read the exciting reports from the Lempertz Academy. Do you own objects, antiques, porcelain or jewellery which you would like to sell for the best possible price? Our highly qualified experts are happy to answer your questions.
