Alvin Langdon Coburn - biography

Alvin Langdon Coburn’s works were first introduced to the "Royal Photographic Society" in London in his teenage years by his cousin the photographer F. Holland Day. Through contact to Edward Steichen, Robert Demachy and Gertrude Käsebier he was able to join several photographic societies, and soon became an important early representative of Pictorialism and Symbolism in photography. Coburn was a member of the "Photo-Secession", founded by Alfred Stieglitz in New York in 1902, and his works were published in the group’s magazine “Camera Work”.
