Franz Knebel biography
Franz Knebel II was born in 1809 in La Sarraz, Switzerland. Already as a teenager he came with his father Franz Knebel (1789 -1822) to Rome, where he lived until his death. Like his father, the younger Knebel also devoted himself to landscape painting. Views of Rome, the Campagna and again and again Tivoli with its famous waterfalls are his preferred motifs. His pictures were mainly acquired by northern European travellers and spread throughout Europe.
