A fine and very large boxwood netsuke of a kappa on a clam by Hideharu. Second half 19th century

Squatting on a large hamaguri turning backwards to check his foot that is caught by the valves of the clam. The long hair falls over his shoulder and the body is covered by finely carved scales. The eye pupils of black horn. Signed Hideharu in a sunken reserve.
