A rare ivory netsuke of Kensu. Late 18th century

Standing, holding the antennae of a large shrimp on his shoulder and a fishing net carved with a dragon’s head at the lower end.
Height 9.7 cm

Kensu was a Chinese character who - dressed in rags - roamed the riverside with a fishing net in search of shrimps and clams. He is said to have attained enlightenment while catching shrimps.
