An ivory netsuke of Benkei. Second half 19th century

Depicted smoking a twisted pipe and taking a rest inside the bell of Miidera, which he has single-handedly carried up Mount Hiei, so that the sound of the bell could be enjoyed by the monks of the mountain temples.
