A fine ivory netsuke of an amakurikara. Early 19th century

The two-horned dragon with a tama in one of his claws coils around a ceremonial sword (ken) with a straight blade whose tip is covered by the scaly body of the dragon.
Height 9.1 cm

The full name of this subject is amaryû kurikara ken (Rain dragon Kurikara sword). This type of sword is associated with Fudô Myôô as well as Kobo Daishi, who used such a sword in an amagoi ceremony, in which he prayed for rain in order to save the people from drought.
