A boxwood netsuke of a long-nosed tengu. First half 19th century

The tengu dressed as a yamabushi and with huge crow’s wing at his back sits in front of a ribbed mortar (suribachi) using his long nose as a pestle (surikogi). Eyes of bone and black horn.
Height 4.6 cm

Grinding in a mortar is a sexual allusion.
