An opulent musical box formed as a book.

Lain on a separately worked stand. Gilt, enamelled and engraved silver, set with ivory and facetted foiled stones, pearls and mahogany. Plays Friedrich Silcher's "So nimm denn meine Hände". The cylinder movement marked REUGE SWITZERLAND and SUISSE PATENT. Fine cracks to the ivory. 11.8 x 17 x 22.8 cm.
Probably Vienna, 2nd half 19th C. with a Swiss mechanism.
